This circle is intended to address widespread unkind language in the classroom—whether racial, sexual, homophobic, or other hurtful comments. It is appropriate to hold this circle when these issues are a recurring theme among many students, rather than the actions of a single student*. The goal is to give students space to share how they’ve been impacted, and to end by creating class agreements that help prevent this behavior moving forward.
