Here are a few simple suggestions to try when considering a Loss of Privileges as a consequence for behavioral errors. Loss of Privileges in School basically means that we remove something from the student’s day, restricting their freedom. Losing privileges can be a logical response to many behavioral errors and, if done correctly, can actually support a student in learning new behaviors. Done incorrectly, however, it could damage relationships and worsen behavior. In PBIS (MTSS) this can be a targeted intervention for Tier 2 because Loss of Privileges often involve a) increased structure and prompts/reminders, b) instruction on skills, and c) increased regular feedback.
